Choosing Flooring for an Indian Home: Marble, Vitrified Tile, Wood and Stone
Compare marble, vitrified tile, wood and natural stone on comfort, upkeep and fit with Jaipur's climate.

No single floor suits every room. Marble feels cool and elegant, vitrified tile is practical and easy to maintain, wood is warm underfoot, and natural stone is tough and traditional. Choose by room, by how much water and traffic it sees, and by how much upkeep you are happy to do.
Marble: cool and classic
Marble keeps rooms feeling cooler in Jaipur's long summers and suits living rooms and entrances. It is a natural stone, so it can stain and scratch, and it usually needs sealing and periodic polishing.
- Best for: living and dining areas with light traffic.
- Watch for: stains from oil, turmeric, acidic liquids and cleaning chemicals.
- Tip: choose a honed or matte finish if you worry about slipping.
Vitrified tile: practical all-rounder
Vitrified tiles are dense, resist stains and are easy to wipe clean. Modern versions imitate marble, stone and wood well, and large formats mean fewer joints. They suit kitchens, bedrooms and busy family spaces.
- Best for: kitchens, passages, bedrooms and rented-out spaces.
- Watch for: very glossy tiles can be slippery when wet; prefer matte or anti-skid in wet areas.
- Tip: use thin, even grout lines so the surface looks continuous.
Wood: warm underfoot
Engineered wood and good-quality wood-look laminate suit bedrooms and studies, where you walk barefoot and want a soft feel. Avoid solid wood in areas that get wet, such as kitchens and bathrooms, as moisture can warp it.
Natural stone: tough and local
Kota stone, sandstone and similar stones from Rajasthan are durable and cool, and they suit verandahs, courtyards, terraces and utility areas. Their texture gives good grip, though some stones need sealing to resist stains.
A quick way to decide
- List each room and how wet, busy and sunny it is.
- Match wet and heavy-use areas to vitrified tile or sealed stone.
- Use marble or wood where you want comfort and elegance and can maintain it.
- Keep a similar tone across connected rooms so the home flows.
- Check the sample in your own daylight before ordering.
Prepare the base properly
Even the best material fails on an uneven base. Good levelling, correct slopes in wet areas and proper curing matter as much as the tile itself. Browse our projects to see how different floors look across whole homes.
